So I am move to Kitchener from Guelph, and then I ah, get a job in ah Guelph. Dumb yes, but then the job market sucks, so ya takes what ya can gets.
So now I commute. Not really so bad really. I like driving, and thankfully I own a really thrifty car. I've been watching the gas prices climb as the weather has been getting warmer, and I just got my monthly bill from Petro Canada, and since I buy diesel, the prices have been getting lower as the weather has been getting better. Last month I managed to pay an average of 48 cents / L, which is nice since gas has been hovering around 69 cents / L. Mileage has been getting better again as the weather has warmed, and I'm back to getting my summer average of 4.5 L/100 kms, so over 50 MPG. I love this car, and hope to still keep it for a long while. Its at 548,000 kms so far, but thats not to uncommon for a VW jetta turbo diesel of this vintage. I should easily be able to keep it for a few more years.
I love the new camera. Its has a nifty burst mode which is great for taking a series of shots really quickly, which I can later turn in animated gifs like above. It has 12 shots really quickly, so its great for sports stuff, or anything else with movement. Can't wait to play more with this feature.
I'm getting to spend lots of quality time with my girlfriend this weekend as she recovers from having her wisdom teeth extracted.
So $1175 dollars later, she now has three less teeth bothering her inside her mouth, and thankfully somehow isn't in much pain. Perhaps this is thanks to the fact that her doctor prescribed a small pharmacy worth of drug options for us. We decided on getting some anti-inflamatory meds and some tylenol 3's just in case, along with a prescription mouthwash and antibiotics. I think the anti-inflamatories are doing a good job as her she hasn't turned into a chickmunk, and doesn't have much if any pain to speak of.
So we spent most of today, and yesterday shopping like we normally seem to do on weekends. We finally decided on a pair of glasses for hang, along with a pair to be tinted to sun glasses, and I even found a pair that I like. So they are now off being created, and I'll pick those up soon. We spend the rest of the day cloths shopping around town, and down at the outlet malls in cambridge - all around good consumer related day.
The day took its toll though...
She's sleeping soundly as I type this, and when she later takes her Tylenol 3, shes really be out.
I miss my cat...
As much as I enjoy helping to take care of my girl friends fish, I really miss my cat. Thankfully the little fur ball still knows who I am, and when I come home to visit he doesn't act any different which is comforting. Our apartment could likely fit him, but I think he'd miss being able to run around a back yard so things will have to wait till we get a house. By then he might end up staying with my parents since it just might be cruel at that point to move him. So I might end up having a new cat in future. Gives me at least a good incentive to get things in order to get a house as soon possible, which looks like it might happen within the year.
What else are weekends for if not for spending time spending the money you worked all week to earn.
Spent part of saturday looking at glass's for Hang, my better half, and actually managed to find some nice ones. Still haven't made a decision yet though. I think I'm going to upgrade my glasses too. They are getting a bit dated, and even though I don't wear them much, I'd finally like to find a pair of glasses that I like. Its been like 15 years, and I still haven't accomplished this task. Tried hard though...
After doing the glasses thing, we decided to wander around the mall a bit, and do some cloths shopping. I just had to take a picture of this. Its just nuts. Exactly what is a size 0. I mean, if a 1 is the smallest you can get, then um, I'd hate to see the girl who needs a size 0.
Some people wanted to know what my work was like, so I brought new camera to work with me today. Sadly I had to replace my Kodak DC215 after it mysteriously died a few days ago. Thanks to the wonders of internet shopping, and UPS fast delivery, 2 days later I had a new camera. My new camera is a Kodak DX4900, and its a nice upgrade. I'm going to have some fun with this camera.
Here I am in my cube. Work was nice to me, and gave me a Thinkpad T30 to work with. My main job is setting up machines for our lab where the team tests software and OS images before they get released to be used company wide. On my desk I have an autoview box and lots of cables, so that I can hook up a number of machines, and ghost them all. Then I can configure them for next round of tests, before I bring them over to the lab.
Here is a shot of our lab. You can see Gabrielle and Terry talking over some tests that they are doing on the latest build of a piece of custom software that is used by some department in the company. I can't keep track of all the silly named internal software...okay, I can keep track, but I still think the names are silly. Responsibily, Versatility, Permanent, Term...etc
One thing I can't complain about the new job is the team building exercises. Although I'm really awkward socially, and so these things do make me feel a bit uncomfortable, I really can't complain since I'm doing fun activities, and being paid to do them.
Here I am in our canoe race in downtown guelph. I'm so glad we didn't go into the water, its so dirty. The funny part is that another team building exercise is a clean up of the same river, but its going to be done later, after the race.
Here I am bowling. I suck at bowling, but perhaps with a little magic I can will the ball where I want it.
Well a lot has happened since my last blog entry, and I have decided that I want to get back to my normal routine, so here I am posting an update. I decided that probably the best thing to do was to make a summary entry, and I'll flesh out the details with following entrys since I won't be able to fit everything into this one entry.
Stuff thats happened:
* I'm done skewl!
* I'm working full time now. I'm doing a contract for the Cooperators Insurance. Its so exciting that I'm writing this blog update from work in my cube. Yes thats sarcasm...I'm bored. Its not always this way, sometimes this place is very facinating, just not now, at this very moment.
* I have a girl friend.
* I moved in with above girl friend
* Above girl friend took care of me while I had the Chicken Pox
Thats enough for now. I should be working right now. So basically that means I'm back to web browsing...
